Blood and GutsPosted on October 25th, 2007 by forrest_troxell | |
So my first “real” blog isn’t gonna be anything about my epic surf seshn, or my contests coming up, or anything actually related to surf. I want to share a traumatizing experience that happened to me the other day.
Ok, so this last tuesday, October 23, 2007, I was in my 3rd period film projects class teamed up with a girl who is my friend. Our project was to cover the auto shop class project of rebuilding a Ford Bronco. The bronco, a huge lifted truck, was whipping doughnuts and peeling out in the grass, being driven by the teacher, and we were getting the film, totally stoked on our clips. So then he asked us if we wanted to jump in the back to get a ride back to our classes. We jumped in the back and he drove slowly up the hill, made it up to the road, and we stopped. He turned to us and asked us if we wanted to get out right there, or if we wanted to pull forward a little more and keep filming. My friend and I looked at each other and said, “I think that’s good!” Meaning, we thought the footage we had gotten was perfect alreaady and we wanted to get out there. So we both started to climb over the tailgate. Unfortunately for us, he misunderstood us, and thought we meant that, “Oh, that would be good, pull up” and so he pulled forward slowly, but the clutch jumped and the truck jolted forward. Me and the girl both went flying over the tailgate (about 5 feet in the air) and I landed straight upside down, onto my shoulder and slammed my head directly into the asphalt. From that moment, I was in such a shocked stage that I had no idea what was happening. The driver helped us over to a bench and I realized I couldn’t see straight; my eyes were rolling around in my head and I could barely tell what was happening. They told me I had a pretty bad gash on the back of my head and all of a sudden (or what seemed all of a sudden, most likely about 15 minutes) an ambulance pulled up, and then later my dad did as well. They took me to our little local medical center, laid me down, and asked if I wanted stitches or staples to close the wound. I chose staples. Now I have 5 staples in the back of my head, and I’m out of the water for at least a week.
I feel so damn lucky to be alright, considering what could have resulted from this. My shoulder and arm are all scraped up, and my head is bruised and cut, but I feel barely any pain, and I just want to get back in the water already! Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know why I won’t be having any epic seshn’s to report about. I will update about my progress as it happens. Thanks!
Aloha,
Forrest
